The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is an online form that must be submitted annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for federal student financial aid.
The U.S. Department of Education uses the information provided on your FAFSA® to determine your eligibility for aid from federal student financial assistance programs. New Jersey uses the FAFSA® to determine your state grant and scholarship eligibility. Colleges and Universities may also use the FAFSA® data to award their own aid.

When creating your NJFAMS account, make sure to select the right option on the registration page – entering either your Social Security Number or your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) depending on which one you have or selecting ‘Neither’ if you do not have either number. Make sure to provide us with the most up-to-date email address in your profile and keep an eye out for emails from HESAA (from ‘NJ Grants & Scholarship Office.HESAA.org’). If we do request additional information or verification from you through NJFAMS, make sure to submit all requested information by the applicable deadline. Financial aid awards may be subject to cancelation if you miss the verification deadline.
