Tuition Aid Grant (TAG)
Benefits
TAG awards may cover up to the cost of tuition. The amount of money received is dependent on several factors, including financial need, cost of attendance and available funding.
As long as the student continues to meet all program eligibility requirements, TAG awards may be renewed annually. View the current maximum award amounts, or estimate your potential TAG award using the TAG Estimator.
Eligibility
Students must:
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- Be a legal resident of New Jersey for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to enrollment
- Be registered with Selective Service (if required)
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in an approved degree or certificate program
- Not have a baccalaureate degree, or an associate degree if enrolled at a two-year college
- Not have received the maximum allowable number of grant payments
- Not be in default on a Federal or State student loan
- Not owe a refund on a Federal or State grant
- Not be enrolled in a program leading to a degree in theology or divinity
Participating Institutions
Students must attend an approved New Jersey college, university or degree-granting proprietary school.

How Do I Apply
If you are a partner to a civil union or your parents are in a civil union, you may provide additional information using the Civil Union Worksheet. If you are independent, you should complete the 2013-14 Independent Student Civil Union Worksheet. If you are dependent, your parents should complete the 2013-14 Dependent Student Civil Union Worksheet.
State Application Deadlines
The FAFSA must be RECEIVED by the Federal processor (not postmarked) by the dates indicated below to be considered for TAG, NJ STARS and NJ STARS II:
