HESAA's Real Money 101 is an interactive financial literacy program designed to promote awareness about the importance of building sound money and debt management skills. Topics covered during the on-campus presentations include budgeting, balancing a checkbook, identity theft, building a strong credit history, and default prevention. A critical component of HESAA's default prevention campaign is helping students prepare for loan repayment. The campaign provides information on concepts like forbearance, deferment, loan consolidation and income sensitive repayment.
These informative and interactive 45 - 60 minute sessions were developed in cooperation with New Jersey licensed budget and credit counseling agencies. HESAA offers this program free of charge and allows schools the flexibility of having the presentations specifically tailored to meet schools' needs. In addition, schools and students have access to a variety of free resources including: brochures, informational materials, Real Money 101 booklets, Real Money 101 CD ROMs, and toll-free telephone assistance.
